A 60-minute appointment with a genetic counsellor to discuss genetic testing when planning a pregnancy
Purpose
The focus of this appointment is genetic testing that will give you (and a partner) information about the risk of having a child affected by a serious genetic condition. The majority of the conditions that are tested follow autosomal recessive or X-linked inheritance patterns. Individuals can carry a risk for these conditions without showing any symptoms or having a family history. Reproductive carrier screening can help you make informed decisions about your reproductive options.
Who Is This For?
This appointment is ideal for those people (individual or couple) who are planning a pregnancy, are in their first trimester of a pregnancy or are planning to be a donor.
Next Steps
Once results are available, a second appointment will be booked to discuss what (if anything) was found and what your options are regarding having children. This appointment can vary in length depending on the complexity of the results.
